One of the most important cycle races in the Pyrenees Mountains is ” L’Ariegeoise Cyclosportive”. This year it takes place on Saturday, 27 June 2015.
The event starts at Tarascon-sur-Ariège. The route takes in several steep climbs and the first is to the summit of Le Portel, with 31 km of changing gradient rise with a 5% average. The descent by wild valley roads will lead the peloton to Saint-Girons, then Castillon-en-Couserans and onto the 16.4km ascent of the Col of the Core before a “double final ascension” of the Col d’Agnès and the Port de Lers. The finish is in the Vicdessos valley, on the Plaine des Sports in Auzat.
More than 650 people volunteer to help stage the race, which has almost 4,200 riders taking part. Many are from overseas – 16 foreign (to France) countries are taking part.
